Incorporated in 1976, Newark Public Radio, Inc., was originally licensed to the City of Newark Board of Education to supplement classroom instruction. In 1979, the license was transferred to Newark Public Radio, Inc. and, since then, WBGO has operated as a not-for-profit, community-based organization. Known as the Best in Jazz, the station offers superb Blues programming for the New Jersey and New York audiences.
