The son of a former Bill Monroe & the Blue Grass Boys member, Bill Ellis nevertheless found his muse in the Blues. And since moving to Memphis in 1996 he has made it his beat, working as the music writer for the Commercial Appeal, Memphis’ daily paper. Obviously, the Blues plays a big part of a Memphis music writer’s job, but Ellis’ love for the music has allowed him to delve deeper than most reporters in covering a variety of issues and personalities in the Blues, from the battle over Sleepy John Estes’ estate to the homecoming of B.B. King. Ellis is also a recording artist in his own right, with five albums of acoustic blues including the recently released Conqueroo to his credit.
