Despite a reputation as one of the world’s premier blues guitar slingers dating back to the 1960s, Buddy Guy had never had an album on the charts until he crossed over in spectacular fashion with the 1991 Silvertone release Damn Right, I’ve Got the Blues. The presence of guest stars Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Mark Knopfler helped raise his profile, but Guy provided all the necessary firepower to make this a defining moment in his career, playing and singing with passion, pride and fury. The album was the first of several for Guy to win both Grammy and W.C. Handy (Blues Music) awards.
