No one defined the Louisiana Swamp Blues sound of Baton Rouge better than Slim Harpo. Born James Moore in 1924, he would go on to have almost as much success as Jimmy Reed, his chief influence. Moore began his career as Harmonica Slim, but upon beginning his relationship with the Nashville-based Excello label under the direction of producer J.D. Miller, his name was changed to Slim Harpo. His first single, ‘I’m A King Bee,’ was released in 1957, starting a string of singles that eventually found their way onto the classic album 1961 Raining In My Heart. It featured the infectious, mid-tempo ballad title track which was his first chart record.
