Founded in 1995, the Alabama Blues Project, under the directorship of Debbie Bond, has created a series of blues education programs that have reached thousands of students of all ages. In addition to the in school programs and artist residencies, the Alabama Blues Project also offers a Summertime Blues Camp and after-school programs for at-risk students. These programs combine hands-on blues music with a life-skills curriculum to foster self esteem, cultural diversity and self-expression. Bonnie Raitt, the Alabama State Council on the Arts, and the National Endowment, has enthusiastically endorsed the Project for the Humanities.
