In 1971, a 23-year-old shipping clerk at Delmark records named Bruce Iglauer took a tiny inheritance and used it to record his favorite Chicago Blues band. The eponymous Hound Dog Taylor & The Houserockers became the first album on Alligator Records, a label that has become a standard-bearer for the Blues. Alligator recently celebrated its 30th anniversary with a commemorative two-disc set, and for his unyielding dedication to the Windy City’s Blues scene. Iglauer recently was recently named a ‘Chicagoan of the Year’ by Chicago Magazine.
