Years before MTV, VH1 and specialty in-concert shows, there was Austin City Limits.
Willie Nelson performed on the 1974 pilot debut for the public television program, which was developed to spotlight the music scene in Austin, Texas. The show has evolved to feature the best talent the music industry has to offer and to deliver this music weekly to over 300 PBS stations. Austin City Limits has captured stellar performances from Blues and Blues-influenced artists like John Hiatt, Los Lobos and Bonnie Raitt. Among the legendary performances are Ray Charles in 1980, Stevie Ray Vaughan in 1990 and Dr. John in 1993. The video of the Stevie Ray Vaughan Austin City Limits performances, featuring his `90 and `84 appearances on the show, recently reached the platinum video sales. Under Executive Producer Bill Arhos, Producer Terry Lickona and Director Gary Menotti, Austin City Limits continues to excel in capturing the heart of the music for television.
