Big City Blues was first published as the Detroit Blues Magazine in 1995 by Detroit Blues Society members Robert Junior Whitall and Charles Auringer. The pair put together a team of editors, writers, photographers and Blues people to begin to tell the story of the Blues in Detroit. They quickly found out that a larger story was seeping into their pages, the story of the Blues in major cities around the nation. Big City Blues was born in 1997 and includes coverage of the Blues in cities like Chicago, Memphis, Nashville, Cleveland, Kansas City and New Orleans. The focus and the heart of the magazine is keeping the Blues alive. The publication features the best Blues and Blues influenced acts out today. Big City Blues also pays special attention to emerging Blues talent.
