Blues Revue was first published in July 1991 by Bob Vorel, who at the time was also the editor, sales rep, writer, and photographer. Originally a tabloid titled Blues Revue Quarterly, the magazine initially focused only on acoustic blues. With a new glossy format came a dedication to the full spectrum of the Blues and a new name, BRQ, under which the magazine was published until it became the bimonthly Blues Revue in 1995. With offices in Illinois and West Virginia, the magazine continues its dramatic growth as the information leader in the Blues community, with a greater U.S. and worldwide distribution than any other Blues publication.
