When you think of historical preservation, a quiet library with thousands of dusty books comes to mind. But historical preservation of the Blues is not like studying Latin. The art form is living and evolving, and David Sanjek is keeping up with the trends and patterns of American culture that have been expressed through the Blues. Sanjek, the Director of BMI Archives, is also the United States Chair of the International Association for the Study of Popular music. David serves in an advisory capacity to a number of organizations including the Rhythm and Blues Foundation, Museum of American History of the Smithsonian Institution and the Experience Music Project. David is the co-author, with his late father Russell, of Pennies From Heaven – The American Popular Music Business in the Twentieth Century.
