Children are the future. It’s one thing to say it and another to actually do something to mold and enrich their lives. And most adults could also stand to have an enlightening learning experience also. Jackson is described as ‘one of the few African-Americans dedicated to performing and preserving acoustic blues.’ Fruteland conducts a lecture/performance entitled ‘From Skunkweed To Skyscrapers – The Emergence and Evolvement of Blues Music in American Culture.’ This lecture/performance includes a slide presentation depicting scenes and individuals whose contributions to blues music have made the genre one of America’s great gifts to world culture. Adapted for varying audiences, the lecture can be tailored for school kids and adults alike. There is one lecture adapted for different primary and secondary school levels and another is tailored for adult audiences. Fruteland was also just awarded The Illinois Arts Council Ethnic Heritage Award.
