The Skylands Blues Society was founded in Hackettstown, New Jersey taking its name from the rolling hill area of northwest New Jersey. Skylands Blues Society maintains a balance between Blues on the national and local levels. Since it’s 1990 inception, the society has sponsored national acts like Buddy Guy, KoKo Taylor, Lonnie Mack and William Clarke. Every month Skylands sponsors a free local jam to give area musicians an audience to play live and perfect their sound. A 24-hour hotline was established for artists to inform fans of their performance schedules The Skylands Blues Society produces an annual Regional Blues Talent Competition to select a band to compete in the Blues Foundation International Blues Talent Competition. Skylands Blues News is published quarterly to keep members aware of the national and local Blues scenes.
